Aeromedical Airlift

In this era of "downsizing," the Air Force continues to find ways to make the most of every resource. As a result, the Hurricane Hunters sometimes bring military nurses and medical technicians on board during routine weather training flights. While the weather crewmembers are keeping their flying and data collection skills proficient, the medics practice setting up and using their specialized equipment under the "no frills" conditions in a flying military transport plane. Supporting sick and injured patients becomes especially challenging in the cramped conditions, compounded by noise, vibration, turbulence, and pressure changes. In a national emergency, these are literally life-saving skills.
